More 1995 Omni GD History!
Before I review this show, I have to say that if you have not heard the March 27th show from the same run, def make sure you listen to it!! It is one of the most unique shows, and it features probably more freeform jamming than any show in the Vince era . It has a five song first set that is actually just as long as the eight song first set in this show. It's the only show I know of where at the end of the last song before drums, the band stays on stage for another 15 minutes and creates a massive, and very creative jam with Garcia leading the way. By the time they finish it up in walk off, there's only 5 minutes of actual drums lol. Then the rest of the band is back on stage again for space... there are other special treats fron 3/27/95... Garcia's playing is as good as ever on it, and we are in for a treat because it is the same way on this night as well.
While this night may not feature quite as much in song jamming, it does feature an amazing and beautiful space segment between Vince and Bob and Jerry that you simply must hear to understand why I would faun over and recommended so highly. It's part of a pattern of 1995 space segments where Vince and Bob and in this case Jerry too, create almost an impromptu song more so than just the freeform musical deconstruction type stuff they usually do. These 95 space segments are so underappreciated it's criminal because I feel like ithey are the culmination of what space really was trying to be, you hear evidence of this in some 93 and 94 space segments, and by 95 it's almost as if they'd perfected the art form. After all those years. Check out 3/18 and 3/23 for additional shows from this tour with space segments that will blow you away and are in the same vein.
I'm not sure if it has something to do with the fact that the band knew the Omni was scheduled to be torn down and maybe they just really felt up for playing their hardest in order to honor all the great times they played there before, to keep up the tradition. But there's no mistaking that this Omni run is not only the best run of this tour, it is one of the best runs in many years from the band's catalog. This show is more than just worth listening to. And Jerry's playing is actually really fun to listen to, really crisp, and really engaging. The health struggles that seem to be more than he can handle at certain parts of the year which really affect his playing at times, those seem to be nowhere near him at these Omni shows. I feel like there is one night of this run where he struggles a little bit, but it's not this one. If it's there, I'll find it and put it in the review as I continue analyzing these shows.
For those wanting to get the cliff notes and just go straight to the highlights of this night, check out the Franklin's Tower and start there. Afterwards there is a Corrina that is not only really fun, but it has a completely unique ending with a vocal riff i've not heard them do... but then the magic happens as they morph Corrina into Matilda and the playing and jamming during this very spontaneous and loose segment is payoff city. Drums and as I mentioned before space, are great, and the X Factor continues aa they power up into I need a miracle. Jerry is very into his guitar tone and soloing during Miracle and he bleeds it into standing on the moon in a way that is way more segue-intentional than you would usually get right there. And then, one of the COOLEST not fade aways I've ever heard. At the end Jerry gets into a vocal thing that I've never ever heard him do. It is without a doubt the most unique Not Fade Away due to this factor and definitely you've got to check it out. When you hear the way the band riffs and deals with handling all the musical elements as they break NFA down at the end, you can tell they are having a blast and are putting their all into it. It is really cool and really fun to listen to! I give it five stars for the awesome sound quality and then five stars for top playing of the year.

Overall very solid show
95 wasn't the most standout year, but they had their moments. This is an excellent recording and has some great moments. Jack-a-Roe is true Dead something reminiscent of earlier years. Help>Slipknot>Franklins is exceptional, the second to last time they played it as a band but probably the best of 95. Also noteworthy is the second set. Really nice version of Standing on the Moon and Not Fade Away here. Don't miss this one.
